Nails and staples produced by ISANTA members are made to standards that have been developed and listed by ASTM International.
These standards provide the necessary information regarding terminology, material requirements, physical properties, dimensions and tolerances, protective coatings, testing procedures, and requirements of not only the fasteners, but the wood-based materials that these fasteners are driven into.
ISANTA is an active participant in the ASTM standards process and holds the chair position for the F16.05 subcommittee on driven fasteners.
Standards are published and available for purchase at ASTM International . All standards are listed by the ASTM committee with responsibility for the standard. For example, F1667/F1667M-21a is the responsibility of the ASTM F16 Committee on Fasteners. The first set of letters and numbers [F1667] indicates the standard number with references to US conventional units (inches, pounds, etc.). When a standard has an M [F1667M] behind the reference number, SI units (mm, Newtons, etc.) are used. When both the US conventional and SI units are referenced the standard number will show both numbers [F1667/F1667M]. The number after the standard designation is the date of the last revision. A lower case letter after the two digit year indicates additional revisions in the same year. Numbers in parentheses indicate the re-approval date without change.
